It isn’t long until the city centre reaches the festive season.

Halloween is yet to hit the North East, but plans for Christmas are already in place, and there is no better place to enjoy the build up to the festive season than heading to Newcastle’s Christmas market.

Much like last year, events in 2023 will be based around Monument in the city centre and this is everything we know about the festive events to hit Newcastle.

When are Newcastle’s Christmas lights being turned on?

The start of the Christmas period will be celebrated on the evening of Tuesday, November 14 when the city’s lights will be switched on at the event’s traditional Grey Street location.

The event will start at 6pm and run until 7:3pm with songs, games, and live music expected. It has not yet been announced who will be turning on the lights this year, although Metro Radio’s breakfast show hosts Steve and Karen will again lead the evening.

The market will open on Saturday, November 18 and run until Saturday, December 23.

Organisers are promising a huge range of local companies with a brilliant range of local businesses and independent traders who will be selling their bespoke jewellery, eco-friendly beauty products, clothing, Churros, homemade chutneys and preserves.

The market will run between 10am and 8pm from Monday to Saturday during the four weeks of trading as well as between 10am and 5pm on Sundays before the site closes two days before Christmas Day.

Unlike previous years, regular live entertainment will be on offer throughout the build up to Christmas with music, choirs, and other entertainment expected to take place at a new performance area around Grey’s Monument.
