The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is being hosted in Malmo, Sweden but here are Newcastle venues where you can catch the action.

The Eurovision Song Contest’s Grand Final is set to take place tonight (Saturday, May 11), in Malmo, Sweden. 

With 25 countries set to compete in the grand final in Sweden, 50 years since ABBA took the crown with Waterloo in 1974, the song contest is set to be a spectacular celebration of music and Europe.

The countries who have made it to the final following the semi-finals include; Ukraine, Germany, Luxembourg, Israel, Lithuania, Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Greece, Norway, Serbia, Finland, Portugal, Armenia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Georgia, and Austria. 

It was recently announced that Netherlands participant Joost Klein had been disqualified ahead of the Grand Final, following a backstage incident, as reported by the BBC.

Also competing are The Big 5, countries who are automatically entered into the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest each year, including; the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.

Sweden, who were the winners of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 are also automatically granted a place in the Grand Final. 

Representing the United Kingdom is Olly Alexander, with his song Dizzy. Alexander is a well-known actor and singer, who was the lead in the band Years & Years, and starred in the critically acclaimed Channel 4 drama series It’s A Sin.

In 2023, when the United Kingdom hosted the contest on behalf of Ukraine, Newcastle was one of seven cities shortlisted to host, before losing out to Liverpool.
