Woman dies in horrific car fire after incident in Northumberland

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a woman sadly died following an incident causing a car to catch fire.
Northumbria Police received a report of a vehicle on fire at just before 7pm on Sunday December 11. The incident occurred close to Matfen Brewery, in Matfen near Newcastle.

Hide AdThe vehicle which caught fire has now been identified as a red Audi. Emergency services attended the scene, but sadly found a woman deceased inside the vehicle.
Formal identification took place, and the woman’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. They have requested privacy at the time.
Officers are now particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Matfen area or on Military Road at around 7pm on Sunday December 11, or those who have dashcam footage to help with the investigation. The police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
