Newcastle United confirm two new signings will link up with squad on pre-season tour

Newcastle United have confirmed both Alex Murphy and Charlie McArthur will link up with the academy for their pre-season tour of Spain.

Elliott Dickman’s second string head to Pinatar today to take part in a warm-weather training camp before taking on Elche on Saturday.

The under-18s will also be travelling to the same destination to face Seleccion Region de Murcia as both groups prepare for their respective seasons.

Murphy played his final game for Galway United on Friday night, which ended in a 3-1 win against Cobh Ramblers, after first agreeing to join the Magpies in May.

Meanwhile, McArthur’s arrival from Kilmarnock was confirmed last week.

Both players are viewed as a big coup for Newcastle with the pair attracting interest from other Premier League clubs.

“The trip to Pinatar provides an excellent opportunity to get both new professional development phase (PDP) groups (U18 and U21) working closely together in a warm weather training camp,” academy manager Steve Harper said.

“We are very grateful for the support of the owners in allowing both groups to travel to Pinatar and during their stay, everyone will be working hard at fantastic facilities supported by an extensive, excellent support team.

“Both groups will finish with a fixture at the end of the week and for the new under-21 group to have a very tough test against a very, good La Liga side in Elche shows what opportunities being a young player at Newcastle United can provide.”

The likes of Joe White, Jay Turner-Cooke and Isaac Westendorf, who have all trained with Eddie Howe’s first-team in recent weeks, are also in the squad for Spain.
