Former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has named Newcastle United trio Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson in his BetVictor Premier League Team of the Week.

Eddie Howe’s men hit four past Aston Villa at St James’ Park to record their fifth win in six games and maintain their position in the division’s top four. Wilson scored a brace in front of the on-watching England boss Gareth Southgate, while Miguel Almiron continued his incredible form with his sixth goal in as many games.

Trippier set up Wilson’s goal to make it 2-0 just after half-time after combining with Almiron via a short corner-kick routine and also emerged with a sixth clean sheet of the campaign. “Newcastle are flying, and Trippier has been right up there with their top performers all season long,” Redknapp said.

“He caused Villa all sorts of problems getting in behind and was great at the back as well. He’s got bags of experience, and it’s turned out to be a great move to get him in from Eddie Howe.”

Manchester City star Erling Haaland and Almiron were the Premier League’s top scorers for August and Redknapp believes the Paraguayan can get into any starting XI. He said: “He’s playing out of his skin at the moment.

“I can confidently say he’d get into any starting eleven in the Premier League. He was electric against Villa on Saturday, and what about that goal? Superbly taken from a player full of confidence.”

And Wilson certainly passed his audition as he bids to earn a spot in England’s Qatar World Cup squad. Redknapp crowned the Magpies No.9 his ‘Star Man this week’.

Redknapp added: “Another couple of goals for Newcastle’s talisman. He’s thriving at the moment, and with such brilliant service coming in from behind, it’s no surprise at all. He’s playing at the top of his game.”
