Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has admitted he would love to see England star Jude Bellingham at his former club - but believes the midfielder will have significant interest from elsewhere.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise to the top of the game after showing plenty of potential as he broke through the ranks at Championship club Birmingham City. His form in the second tier earned his an early move away from the Midlands outfit and he made a shock switch to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2020.

The move has paid off as the youngster has become a key figure with die Schwarzgelben, scoring 19 goals and providing 21 assists in 112 appearances in all competitions over the last two and a half seasons. His early form earned a maiden call-up to the England senior squad just months after his move to Germany and Bellingham scored his first Three Lions goal in their World Cup opener against Iran last month.

He has continued to shine in Qatar and that has led to speculation over a big money move away from Dortmund, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid all said to be considering a move for his services. Magpies legend Shearer admitted he could see several big-name clubs being in the mix to sign Bellingham - and feels that could hamper any chances of the midfielder making a shock move to Tyneside.

“Hasn’t Jude Bellingham always belonged in Northumberland?” Shearer was asked by the BBC. He replied: “Well, I would love to think so, but I would suspect that he might have a few more offers from clubs that are already going to be challenging for the Premier League rather than a team that will be in years to come.”

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has questioned why Bellingham would even consider a move to Tyneside and believes the possibility of securing any deal would be vastly different to the one that took Kieran Trippier to St James Park from Atletico Madrid last January.

He told talkSPORT: ““Why would Jude Bellingham go to a work in progress? If he is going for £130 million, he is going to get £200,000, £300,000, £400,000 per week, and obviously why would he go to Newcastle? It’s one thing Kieran Trippier buying into the vision, it’s another thing the most sought-after player in European football signing at this stage. I might be wrong, but I suspect I am not.”
