It was no secret that West Ham United had been looking to bolster their attacking line-up during the January transfer window, but the arrival of Danny Ings from Aston Villa is a move many won't have seen coming.

The English striker will be a third option to the misfiring Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio for David Moyes, whose Hammers side currently sits in the relegation zone.

West Ham had been rumoured to be interested in signing Youssef En-Nesyri from Sevilla, which is a move that Newcastle United star Callum Wilson questioned on the BBC Sounds' Footballer's Football Podcast.

Wilson chats with Hammers man Antonio on the show and the two discussed West Ham's transfer business before the arrival of Danny Ings - who moved to Southampton for £25 million in 2021.

The Newcastle forward said: "Every time I see West Ham linked with a striker it's always a similar profile. It's always a tall, gangly centre-forward, sometimes you probably are looking at the wrong option.

"The Premier League is difficult sometimes for a centre-forward. I feel that if you've got someone who's the same profile as this En-Nesyri and Scamacca, you go for a totally different option if you're going to have three. Different games require different types of strikers - ones that will drop in short and run in behind."

What Wilson said clearly wasn't far off the discussions happening at Hammers HQ with the expected £15 million fee for Danny Ings buying the club a more direct striker capable of dropping deep and running between the lines.

With the imminent arrival of Danny Ings, Sky Sports News has today reported the club are willing to listen to offers for Wilson's podcast co-host Michail Antonio.

Antonio remained coy about any rumours on The Footballer's Football podcast but did acknowledge a striker leaving the club was possible. He said: "Right now, we're maybe looking at other strikers as we're not doing it. In football, if they don't want me, if they don't want Gianluca, they will try and get someone off the pay packet, release some cash.

"It's difficult but as a professional, you have to deal with what comes your way. Obviously, I want to play football and that's all I care about."
