Newcastle United’s Allan Saint-Maximin has been named as a target for AC Milan, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The Italian giants see him as an alternative to Nicolo Zaniolo.

AC Milan have relied heavily on Rafael Leao over the past couple of seasons, with the forward netting eight goals in the Serie A this term. However, with Leao approaching the final 12 months of his contract, he has recently been heavily linked with a move away - with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City interested.

With Milan now looking to bolster their attack in anticipation of Leao’s departure, they are reportedly considering Saint-Maximin. This comes after they made a bid for Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, however it looks unlikely that they will be able to meet their demands and could now turn to the Newcastle star.

Saint-Maximin made an instant impact when he joined the Magpies from Nice in 2019 and was their star player as they narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season. However, United’s unbelievable start to their current campaign has left the Frenchman out in the cold. While he has struggled with injuries this season, Saint-Maximin has still only made four starts and another eight from the bench.

The impressive form of Joelinton and Miguel Almiron has left Saint-Maximin struggling for game time at St. James’ Park and AC Milan could now look to take advantage of his lack of game time. The former Nice attacker still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract in Tyneside and so the Magpies would be able to demand a hefty fee for his services, however it is unlikely they will be willing to part ways with him anytime soon.

Eddie Howe’s side are eager to bolster their side as they continue to establish themselves as a top Premier League club and will be eager to build on their lack of squad depth. If Saint-Maximin was to leave then their back-up options would consist of the likes of Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy, who have one league goal between them this season.
