Simon Jordan has hit out at Newcastle United new boy Anthony Gordon and hopes the winger ‘gets what he deserves’ after he handed in a transfer request at former club Everton.

The England Under-21 star was a long-term target for the Magpies after they reportedly made an unsuccessful bid to bring Gordon to Tyneside during the summer transfer window. However, they reignited their interest over the last week and finally completed a £40m deal for the 21-year-old on Sunday afternoon.

The move came after a turbulent end to Gordon’s time at Goodison Park after he missed training twice without permission just days before his move to Newcastle came to fruition. The Toffees also confirmed the winger had submitted a transfer request as he signalled his intention to move away from Merseyside for the first time in his career.

When assessing Gordon’s behaviour and his move to Newcastle, Jordan told talkSPORT: “I don’t like the way he has behaved towards Everton Football Club. I can understand everybody’s like rats wanting to desert a sinking ship but you’re supposed to be able to help that football club, not disadvantage it by your behaviour.

“I hope he gets what he deserves, reaps what he sows. Everton have given him an opportunity. Danny Murphy and I have to listen to the players who know far more about the ability of players than I do. He thinks he’s going to be a top, top player.

“I still think he’s got a lot to prove. Everton deserved to be handled a little bit better by the player and with a little bit more respect.”

Gordon is ineligible for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Southampton but could make his Magpies debut in the Premier League home clash with West Ham United on Saturday evening.
