After months of cold and dreary weather, it seems like we could finally be emerging from the other side.
The sun is shining- and warmer weather means only one thing, right?
Beer gardens are one of the best parts about Summer. Newcastle in the sun? In a beer garden? Incomparable.
The atmosphere is joyous- and not just because no one is complaining about how cold they are.
But which beer gardens are the best?
In my opinion, beer gardens with a beautiful setting are peerless. So amongst my top nine, there’s a canny few with a canny view to compliment your first sip.
Here are my recommendations for the best beer gardens in Newcastle and Gateshead.
1. Free Trade Inn, Ouseburn
A picture paints a thousand words, right? Great beer and atmosphere inside, but the Free Trade’s beer garden is the best in the UK, never mind Newcastle. Photo: @Daverism on Twitter
2. The Central Bar, Gateshead
Just off the Tyne Bridge is one of the most interesting buildings in the North East. Cosy on the inside and complete with a lush roof top terrace that can also be hired out for private functions. Photo: Google
3. Wylam Brewery, Exhibition Park
Hidden away in one of Newcastle’s parks lies Wylam Brewery, one of the most impressive venues in Newcastle. In the summer months, their beer garden sprawls out into the park. And with Wylam’s very own beers on top, what could be better?
4. The Grove, Ouseburn
Newly-opened, Ouseburn-adjacent, The Grove boasts an open and spacious beer garden, complete with terrace views of the Byker Wall and beyond. As soon as the warmer weather hits this spot will be a very popular one. Photo: Jason Button
