Newcastle and Gateshead to light up for the King Charles’ coronation concert on Sunday

A choreographed display of light will take place on Sunday May 7 as part of King Charles III’s coronation concert.

The concert which will celebrate King Charles III’s coronation which will have taken place the previous day, will have a live sequence named Lighting up the Nation, which will see ten cities across the UK light up to celebrate.

Newcastle and Gateshead have been announced as two of the official cities to light up on Sunday, with a display of projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.

Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge and Gateshead’s Millennium Bridge will light up, in front of a North East audience which will stretch from the Baltic Quay to the Gateshead Quayside.

Other locations that have been announced include Blackpool, Sheffield, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Cornwall, Belfast and more.

The event which is being produced by BBC Studios will be broadcast live from Windsor Castle. During the concert, they will reveal the three remaining locations that will light up, which are currently being kept secret.

The concert will also consist of performances from various people in the entertainment industry, including TV and film actor James Nesbitt, singers Paloma Faith, Lionel Richie and more.
