According to the duo, who went on to release music as their Byker Grove characters, act and of course present, they bonded over their shared love of Newcastle United all those years ago.

The pair have had an incredibly successful career, especially within presenting for ITV, on the likes of I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here and Britain’s Got Talent, lasting over 30 years and counting - and have maintained their incredibly close relationship throughout.

Ant and Dec’s love for Newcastle United has never waned, and the duo are known to post to their joint social media accounts to celebrate the team’s successes.

Their most recent post, which was of an image of the two at St James’ Park, was captioned: “Hey ho, lets go! #nufc”, in reference to Newcastle United qualifying for the Champions League - the first time the team has done so in 20 years.

The duo have recently decided to step down from their show, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, after their 20th series in 2024. The pair made the announcement via an Instagram video, where the pair said: “we just feel we need a little bit of a breather and the show is going to take a little bit of a rest.”
