Following an impressive 2021-22 season where they won the National League North title by seven points, Gateshead are making a long awaited return to the top level of non-league football this weekend when they travel south to take on Dagenham and Redbridge in the opening weekend of the National League season.

Many Newcastle United fans hold a soft spot for the Heed following a series of loan deals between the two clubs which saw Newcastle youngsters play south of the Tyne to build experience of senior football.
