Newcastle United sponsor applauds Gateshead FC on social media after ‘joke’ performance

The Gateshead FC captain caught the attention of some big names on Twitter after his performance against Dunston.

Newcastle United’s former front-of-shirt sponsor FUN88 shouted out Gateshead FC on social media after an incredible run of play by one of their players in the Durham Challenge Cup.

Forward Aiden Rutledge not only scored a hattrick against Dunston but it’s one goal in particular that caught everyone’s attention.

In the posted video the Heed Army captain drives forward towards goal, past the challenges of four different defenders, before striking the ball into the top left corner of the net.

The goal has resulted in a heap load of praise on social media, with FUN88 posting the video with the caption: ‘Gateshead FC’s Aidan Rutledge. Take a bow son.’

One Twitter user replied saying Rutledge made a ‘joke out of the left back,’ while another said the goal was ‘unreal.’

Gateshead went on to beat their neighbours 5-2 and will face Stourbridge in fourth qualifying round for the FA Cup tomorrow.
