There are a number of Magpies players that could be leaving the club over the coming weeks and months.

Newcastle United are already making progress in their bid to add to their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Odense winger Yankuba Minteh became the Magpies first summer addition earlier this month when he completed a £6m move to Tyneside before joining Dutch champions Feyenoord on a season-long loan. Confirmation of the completion of a £55m move to AC Milan and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali is expected over the coming days and negotiations over a move for Southampton full-back Tino Livramento are ongoing.

Further additions will be made before the transfer window comes to a close at the end of August - but United are also looking at allowing a number of their current players to find pastures new over the coming months as they look to trim Eddie Howe’s squad.

NewcastleWorld takes a look at 12 players that could be allowed to leave St James Park this summer.

Karl Darlow

The long-serving goalkeeper has been a reliable servant for a number of Magpies managers but the form of Nick Pope saw Darlow depart on loan to Hull City during the second half of last season. The Tigers have openly admitted they are keen to convert that loan move into a permanent switch - but they will reportedly face competition from the likes of Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United.

Loris Karius

This one feels in the balance as it stands after United confirmed they had offered a new one-year deal to the former Liverpool goalkeeper. Karius memorably made one appearance last season as he replaced the suspended Nick Pope in the Carabao Cup Final meeting with Manchester United. Reports suggest Karius is keen on a move to Italy and a number of Serie A clubs are said to be showing an interest.

Javier Manquillo

The former Liverpool and Sunderland right-back has never really let the Magpies down since joining the club in the summer of 2017. Although he has never firmly secured the right-back position, and has been forced to play support to Kieran Trippier over the last year, Manquillo has stepped in and done well under a number of managers. He has reportedly been told he can depart this summer and La Liga clubs Getafe and Girona are said to be keen to take him back to Spain.

Jamaal Lascelles

Although still an important presence in the dressing room and a respected figure around the club, Lascelles had found first-team football hard to come by over the last year. The form of Sven Botman and Fabian Schar has limited the Magpies club captain to just five starts in all competitions. Should he leave this summer, Lascelles will go with the good wishes of United supporters after he played a key role in re-establishing the club back in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez. West Ham United and former club Nottingham Forest have been linked with the centre-back.

Jamal Lewis

There was much excitement when Northern Ireland international Lewis arrived at St James Park in the summer of 2020 after showing significant promise during his time at Norwich City. Somewhat cruelly, injuries have limited the impact he has made during his time on Tyneside and his involvement last season amounted to just one start and three substitute appearances. With a number of competitors at left-back and United’s search for a new option in the same area, Lewis seems likely to be heading for the exit this summer.

Matt Targett

This one is debatable and may well depend on whether United succeed in their search for a new left-back during the summer transfer window. Targett impressed after initially joining the Magpies on loan during the January 2022 transfer window and helped the club preserve their Premier League status before making a permanent switch to Tyneside last summer. The former of Dan Burn saw the Blyth-born defender spend the majority of the season as Eddie Howe’s first choice left-back and there have been some suggests Targett could depart if a suitable offer is received and another defensive signing is made.

Kelland Watts

Although highly thought of within the United hierarchy, Watts has spent the majority of the last three seasons away from St James Park after making loan moves to the likes of Mansfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United. At 23-years-old, it could be time for Watts to secure a more permanent exit from United and embark on a career that could still hold so much for the talented centre-back.

Harrison Ashby

Secured during the January transfer window, former West Ham United right-back Ashby has impressed the United hierarchy with his ability and attitude over the last six months. However, with Emil Krafth’s return to fitness and the possible signing of Southampton’s Tino Livramento, Ashby could be allowed to depart on a season-long loan this summer if a move for the latter proves to be successful.

Isaac Hayden

Another stalwart of United’s promotion back into the Premier League under Rafa Benitez and a key part of the side that solidified the Magpies pace back in the top tier. Injury problems have hampered Hayden’s involvement and he spent last season on loan at Championship club Norwich City and seems likely to make a permanent departure this summer.

Jeff Hendrick

United’s forgotten man after spending the last 18 months on loan at Queens Park Rangers and Reading, Hendrick will return to Tyneside following the latter’s relegation into League One. Remarkably, the Republic of Ireland international still has a year left on his current deal at St James Park - but will leave the club this summer.

Garang Kuol

The 18-year-old Australia international only joined Newcastle in January before immediately heading to Scottish Premiership club Hearts on loan for the remainder of the season. A mixed spell at Tynecastle came to a positive end when Kuol scored a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Rangers and it seems likely he will be handed another chance to impress away from Tyneside during the upcoming season.

Ryan Fraser

After showing some signs of life following Eddie Howe’s appointment in November 2021, Fraser has slipped away from the first-team setup at United and spent time training with the Magpies second string last season. The Scotland winger is said to have been discussed as a possible makeweight in the deal to bring Tino Livramento to St James Park and a departure seems inevitable this summer.
