A look ahead to the January transfer window at Newcastle United
Newcastle United have the opportunity to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window. The North East club have been patient with their recruitment since their takeover last year and their signings since then have all worked out well.
Eddie Howe’s side have had a dream first few months of the season and have their fans dreaming of European football next term. They are currently 3rd in the Premier League table behind table toppers Arsenal and 2nd place Manchester City.
The Toon Army are above the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea and will be itching to return to the action when the World Cup break is over. They beat the latter 1-0 in their last league game.
Newcastle have been linked with a wide range of players over recent times and it will be interesting to see who they bring in this winter. Here is a look at players who could join them and some who probably won’t...

1. COULD SIGN: Marcus Thuram
His contract at Borussia Monchengladbach expires next summer so his side risk losing him for free if they don’t sell him in the January window.

2. COULD SIGN: Joao Pedro
The Brazilian’s name has emerged as a target again over recent days and Newcastle are reportedly still keen on signing him.

3. COULD SIGN: Gonzalo Plata
Players always earn moves off the back of World Cups and the Ecuador star could get a big transfer if he can show what he can do in Qatar.

4. COULD SIGN: Moussa Diaby
He would be ideal for the Toon Army this winter and would give them another option going forward. The winger has been linked with a switch to England for a while now. Photo: Christof Koepsel
