Inter Milan defender Stefan De Vrij is reportedly set to change agents amid rumours Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for his services in the new year.

The Dutch international has made over 170 appearances for the San Siro club since joining them on a free transfer from Serie A rivals Lazio in July 2018.

Recent reports in Italy have suggested Newcastle see De Vrij as an experienced option to add to their squad and the Magpies could negotiate a free transfer move with the defender when he enters into the final six months of his current deal in January.

However, the agent believed to be in line to add De Vrij to his list of clients could deliver a blow to the Magpies hopes of landing the 30-year-old defender.

FC Inter News have reported Federico Pastorello is current favourite to become De Vrij’s new agent and he is believed to have a positive relationship with Spurs manager Antonio Conte.

That news, coupled with De Vrij’s praise of his former Inter manager, could put Spurs in the driving seat to secure a free transfer move once the defender moves into the last six months of his current deal.

Speaking about Conte in an interview with DAZN, he said: “Simone Inzaghi and Conte are two important coaches because they’ve won.

“I had already worked with Inzaghi at Lazio, Conte has had a great career because he’s always won.

“We won the title under Conte and you can see it now. Inzaghi has been working on a solid base and is doing an important season now.”

De Vrij has made eight appearances in all competitions for Inter this season - but doubt remains over his long-term future at Inter.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently, telling CaughtOffside: “At the moment there are no negotiations between Inter and any other club for de Vrij, he could be on the move only in case a good proposal will arrive to the Italian club as otherwise, de Vrij could be free to sign with any other club in June 2023, being out of contract as things stand.”
