The agent of Marcos Senesi admits rumours of Newcastle United’s interest in the Feyenoord defender do not surprise him.

Argentina international Senesi was first linked with the Magpies during the January transfer window when a central defender was high on the agenda.

Having failed to sign Sven Botman and Diego Carlos at the time, United eventually turned to Blyth-born Dan Burn after agreeing a £13million deal with Brighton.

Eddie Howe’s side, of course, revisited a deal for Botman this summer and sealed a £35million move from Lille. Carlos, meanwhile, has signed for Aston Villa.

The focus for Newcastle now is on strengthening the attacking positions with Howe eyeing a central striker and wide forward, meaning the Senesi rumours are likely to resurface.

‘Certain rumours do not surprise me’

But being linked with United initially comes as no surprise to the 25-year-old’s agent Danilo Caravello, who believes a Premier League club would have no problem in landing the £17m-rated centre-back.

Caravello, speaking to Serie A News amid interest from Udinese, said: “Marcos is a strong player, an Argentine international. The big obstacle remains the price tag, as dealing with the Dutch is never easy.

“Senesi is a player that many teams pay attention to. But, in the end, nothing ever materialises. Either the economic solution is not found, or there is not all a desire to sell him.

“On the interest of Newcastle, certain rumours do not surprise me. Especially if we consider his value.

“Surely, if the English clubs want him, they’ll get him. They have a higher economic power than the other leagues.”
