Alan Shearer was full of praise for Kevin de Bruyne after the Manchester City star inspired his side to a late 3-2 victory against Newcastle United.

With Newcastle leading 2-1 after goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon cancelled out Bernardo Silva's opener, Pep Guardiola introduced De Bruyne midway through the second-half.

The Belgium international went on to net the equaliser before providing the cross that saw Oscar Bobb score an injury-time winner.

And Magpies legend Shearer, perhaps through gritted teeth, posted on X: "Kevin De Bruyne man. What a player" alongside two angry emojis.

On his performance, De Bruyne told TNT Sports: "I had a big injury and I needed the time. I enjoyed myself. I think it was more willpower than anything else.

"It was crazy. I know I'm not able to do that for 90 minutes at the moment. I can put in a shift for 30 minutes at the moment. I feel it in my lungs, especially with the cold.

"I think to come here is always difficult. Everyone was really happy for me. We want to try and compete for the league again. We are up there. It was a tough game."
