Callum Wilson opened the scoring at Craven Cottage before Almiron’s goal of the season contender put United 2-0 up.

Sean Longstaff added a third before Almiron netted his second on 57 minutes.

The 28-year-old was denied a hat-trick by the offside flag but that failed to wipe the smile Almiron’s face.

And during his Match of the Day analysis, club legend Shearer was full of praise for the winger.

“He caused them problems all afternoon,” Shearer said.

“That’s goal of the month, if not goal of the season. What a strike.

“The technique, the ability and confidence to do it... the keeper has no chance. It is an unbelievable strike.

“It was a really impressive performance from him and Newcastle. I know they had the red card but they still had to do.

“His second goal, he had the desire to get to the far post. It was a special performance from him.

“At times I’ve been a little bit critical of his final pass and final ball but he looks so much more confident this season.”
