Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe believe Newcastle United should have been awarded a first half penalty against Manchester City.
The incident occurred just before half time when John Stones’ elbow connected with the top of Fabian Schar’s head.

Hide AdIt was checked by VAR but agreed with referee Jarred Gillett’s initial on-field decision. Shearer and Defore believe the officials made the wrong call .
“Yeah, that’s a penalty,” Sunderland legend Defoe admitted. If you watch John Stones’ reaction, he looks at the referee straight away. I think he panics.
“Anywhere else on the pitch and that’s a foul. It’s clumsy. The more you watch it back, the worse it gets.”
Shearer agreed: “Anywhere else on the pitch and the referee gives a foul there. They say there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it. I thought it was a penalty as well.”
