United's defeat was their sixth in just seven matches. Forest become only the fourth team to win at St James' Park in the Premier League during Howe's reign after Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
"Our first half performance was pretty good," said Howe. "Second half was difficult, we didn't play particularly well.
"We were probably close to making it 2-0 then we get caught and they score.

"I am already analysing what happened today and as always we look to improve. Hopefully we get some training time now."
