Alan Shearer has delivered his furious response to Newcastle United's first-half performance away to Arsenal.

The Magpies trailed 2-0 at the break following an own goal from Sven Botman and a strike from Kai Havertz. Eddie Howe's side have allowed 12 shots at their goal - four on target - and are yet to test David Raya in the Gunners net.

Mikel Arteta's side took the lead in the 18th minute when an in-swinging corner was headed goalwards by Gabriel. Loris Karius, making his first Premier League appearance since May 2018, saved but ball hit off Botman and crept over the line.

Six minutes later, it was 2-0. A ball over the top found Gabriel Martinelli and with both Botman and Fabian Schar caught ball-watching, Havertz tapped home from close range.

The home side threatened to extend their advantage leaving Newcastle fans to voice their frustrations on social media, and Shearer was no difference.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Newcastle legend said: "Any danger of putting a —— tackle in."

It didn't get much better for the Magpies after the break with Bukayo Saka and Jakub Kiwior making it 4-0. Substitute Joe Willock - back from an Achilles injury - pulled one back but the damage, of course, was already done.

Reacting at full-time, Shearer added: "Arsenal brilliant. Newcastle shambolic."
