Alan Shearer's X-rated response to 'embarrassing' thing Liverpool star did v Newcastle United.

Alan Shearer slammed Diogo Jota after the Liverpool star won a penalty to kill Newcastle United's hopes of a late comeback at Anfield.

Following a goalless first half which saw Martin Dubravka save Mo Salah's penalty, the Egyptian opened the scoring in the 49th minute before Alexander Isak swiftly equalised for United.

However, Isak's leveller was short-lived as goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo put the Reds 3-1 in front.

Sven Botman pulled a goal back for United before the result was put beyond doubt with Salah converting from the penalty spot after Martin Dubravka was adjudged to have fouled Diogo Jota.

And Shearer hit out at Jota for going to ground despite having an open goal to hit.

"What a great dive that is," Shearer initially tweeted. He then responded to Arsenal legend Ian Wright "------ embarrassing".

Wright said: "Would rather go down for a penalty than put the ball in an empty net! Seen it all!"

On the penalty decision, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe added: "I didn't think the second one was a penalty. And I did think Sean Longstaff's one before that was.

"It shouldn't be given. Martin has pulled his hand away. He's had two steps before going down. For me it's not a penalty. Even the first one the contact was so minimal. We feel hard done by."

United's torrid record at Anfield continued having not won there since 1994.

Howe's men sit ninth in the Premier League table having lost seven of their last eight games, including three on the bounce.
