Newcastle United are working on the signing of Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.
Isak, 22, has been identified by the Toon Army as someone to bolster their options in attack.
He has been with Real Sociedad since 2019 and has scored 44 goals in 132 games for the La Liga outfit.
Prior to his move to Spain, the Sweden international played for AIK in his native country before having a two-year spell in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, part of which he spent on loan with Willem II in Holland.
What has he previously said about his future?
Isak was actually linked with a move to England in the last January transfer window.
“I am not talking about other clubs. I am a Real player, I work here and this is my club.
“You can never be sure of anything. As I always say, you never know what can happen in football, but in the end I’m happy.”
The player has revealed that ex-Arsenal ace Thierry Henry is his football idol.
In an interview with Swedish YouTube channel Min Stora Dag in October last year, he said:
“I have a lot of football players who I have looked up to and have taken a lot from. But if I have to name one, I would say Thierry Henry, who I have really liked all the time and where I see many qualities that I have tried to follow.”
It isn’t quite the Alan Shearer answer Newcastle fans will have been hoping for.
Nevertheless, they will be getting a great player through the door if the deal gets over the line.
Isak has a decent goal scoring record so far in his career and at the age of just 22 still, he has the potential to grow and develop even more in the future.
