Alexander Isak issues injury update ahead of Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Newcastle United star Alexander Isak has declared himself “fully fit” for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

The Sweden international missed the 2-0 defeat at Anfield last month with a slight groin injury before returning to the starting XI for the FA Cup fifth-round exit at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion four days later.

Isak was forced to withdraw before the match went to extra-time after feeling tightness. He then recovered in time to lead the line for the 1-0 win at West Ham United on Monday night.

And ahead the visit to Wembley, Isak has shut down suggestions he is struggling with injury,

“No, I feel good,” said Isak. “It's probably been put out a bit more dramatic than it's been. I haven't been injured, I've just had a little bit of tightness, which can be normal when you play a lot of games. But yeah, I feel good and I'm really excited for the game.

“I think the best way to prepare is to train as normal, be a part of the team and just train every day like you're fully fit, which I am.”

Newcastle United injury latest

Eddie Howe has confirmed Newcastle have no fresh injuries for the visit to the capital.

Last week was a challenging one for the Magpies, who lost Anthony Gordon to a three-match ban and Sven Botman and Lewis Hall to longer-term injuries.

Howe said: “Yes, well of course the long-term now, so Lewis Hall recovering after his operation, Sven recovering after his operation, Jamal still making progress to come back, Anthony suspended, apart from that we hope to have a full squad.”
