Alexander Isak was the matchwinner for Newcastle United as they claimed a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park.

Isak netted in the 12th minute when he headed home Anthony Gordon’s cross. It was the Swede’s fourth goal of the campaign and his 12th at St James’ Park in as many games.

“That was massive, against a big team,” Isak told TNT Sports. “It means a lot to the fans that we can win this game.

"It's special of course, our fans are amazing every game, win or lose. So it gives you an extra boost. I have been successful here so hopefully I can keep going."

“The cross was amazing, I just had to jump and put my head on the ball, so credit to him."

Eddie Howe’s side restricted to Arsenal to only threatening from set pieces to record their third Premier League clean sheet of season. The result ends a run of five league games without a win.

“Arsenal have a strong defence and so it is a difficult task but I'm happy we could score today and keep a clean sheet.

"We've had a bad spell but hopefully this win can be a bit of an icebreaker for us."

Meanwhile, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer added: “What a magnificent performance from everyone in a Black & White Shirt.”
