Eddie Howe has provided an update on Newcastle United’s injury situation ahead of Saturday night’s Premier League trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers (kick-off 5:30pm).
The Magpies were handed three fresh concerns in the week with Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy forced off against Borussia Dortmund, while Elliot Anderson was absent from the matchday squad.
Isak suffered a recurrence of his groin issue and Murphy withdrew after dislocating his shoulder.
“Alex is a groin, which we don’t think is serious, but is a recurrence of the groin problem that he suffered when he was playing for Sweden,” said Howe during Friday’s pre-Wolves press conference.
“We need to assess that, and I think he’s having a scan today. We don’t anticipate that is going to be too bad.
“Jacob’s is totally different. It’s a dislocation of his shoulder. It’s not clear what we’re going to do – I think he’s also going to see a specialist today. You can play with these injuries, or the other side of it is that he’ll need an operation and he’ll be out for some time.”
And adding to United’s list of long-term absentees, Anderson has been ruled out for the next eight weeks.
“The next day [after Crystal Palace], he woke up with a sore back and it didn’t really go aways so he’s had scans and tests and it looks like eight weeks.”
