Newcastle United are reportedly interested in a club-record move for Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak.

Eddie Howe is in the market for a striker this summer and Isak, a Sweden international, has emerged as a top target - according to the Telegraph.

However, should the Magpies move for the 22-year-old, they would have to break their transfer record to land him.

The report adds that a fee in excess of £50million is being weighed up as part of a buy-now-pay-later deal.

If accepted, that, it’s claimed, would bring an end to United’s summer business, despite Howe also wanting to sign a wide forward.

That said, as well as playing as a No.9, Isak is also capable of playing on the wing.

Isak has impressed in La Liga since joining from German giants Borussia Dortmund in 2019 - scoring 43 goals in 128 appearances.

What Alexander Isak has previously said on his future

His form recently attracted interest from Arsenal and speaking to the Independent last year, Isak revealed his openness to a Premier League move.

He said: “I’m in a good place at the moment, I’m very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well.

“They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative.

“Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level. I have expectations for myself that I’m trying to fulfill, so we’ll see where the journey takes me in future.”
