Newcastle United are set to welcome back Allan Saint-Maximin for Saturday’s Premier League visit clash with Brentford.

The Magpies star has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury sustained in the 1-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, where scored a stunning late equaliser.

Saint-Maximin trained 24 hours before the Fulham game last weekend but wasn’t risked as United won 4-1 at Craven Cottage.

But with a full week of training under his belt, the Frenchman is set to return to the matchday squad for the visit of Thomas Frank’s side.

“He’s doing OK,” Howe told reporters during his pre-match press conference. “He’s trained well this week.

“We’re pleased with him, he’s making good progress. Yeah, there’s a chance (he’ll be in the squad).”

Joelinton has also trained in the build-up to Brentford after a knee issue meant the Brazilian was only fit enough to make the bench at Fulham.

“Joelinton picked up a knee injury against Bournemouth and hadn’t trained,” Howe, speaking after the win in West London, said.

“He wanted to be involved the type of character he is.

“I wanted to try and protect him but I know how important he is so he was there if we needed him in an absolute emergency,

“Our hand was forced with him. Hopefully, a full week’s training will make the difference for him and he’ll be back next week.”

Alexander Isak, Jonjo Shelvey, Karl Darlow and Emil Krafth remain out.
