Allan Saint-Maximin posted a message to Newcastle United fans after the Carabao Cup final defeat.

Allan Saint-Maximin did not hide his disappointment after Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

The joy of reaching the club’s first final in 24 years turned to pain at full-time at Wembley after Eddie Howe’s men lost 2-0 following first-half goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

As a result, the Magpies missed out on a first trophy since 1969 and a guaranteed spot in next season’s Europa Conference League.

“I am really disappointed to be honest with you… This was one of the most important game of my career personally,” Saint-Maximin posted on Instagram.

The Frenchman almost handed Newcastle the lead when he got cleverly got the better of Diogo Dalot before forcing a save from David De Gea his near post.

Minutes later, Man United got their noses in front when Casemiro headed home Luke Shaw’s out-swinging delivery. Rashford then swiftly made it 2-0 with a deflected shot off Sven Botman.

“This shot could have changed the issues of the game,” Saint-Maximin added. “I will make sure to work hard towards our goals & find solutions to help the team in the best way possible.

“Now our focus is on the rest of the season.”

Newcastle sit fifth in the Premier League table, four points below fourth place Tottenham Hotspur but with two games in-hand.
