‘Always’ - Nick Pope honest on Martin Dubravka relationship and Newcastle United’s 2023-24 season

Nick Pope thanked Newcastle United’s staff and his teammates for getting the club over the line while he watched on from the sidelines this season.
The 32-year-old endured a frustrating campaign, suffering a shoulder injury against Manchester United in December that ruled him out for six months. Pope made his long-awaited comeback at Brentford on the final day and reminded everyone of his talents between the sticks.

The Magpies ultimately ran out as 4-2 winners and, providing Manchester City win the FA Cup, they will earn Conference League qualification.
Pope’s absence proved costly to Newcastle’s campaign and resulted in a dismal festive period. Eddie Howe’s men conceded a staggering 46 goals in the 24 Premier League fixtures he spent on the treatment table.
Speaking after the Brentford win, the goalkeeper hailed his teammates for finishing the season strongly and ensuring a chance of European football. Pope also opened up about his “good relationship” with Toon No.2 Martin Dubravka.
“Yeah I’m pleased with getting our side (winning) done today,” he told BBC Radio Newcastle. “We’ve done all we can and that’s what we came to do. It was nice to get over the line. It was amazing (to return after injury). I had long days, hard days, sacrificing a lot, so to be back on that pitch, I’d been thinking about it for a long time, so it means a lot.

“The good character we have among the team and staff has shone through. I’ve always had a good relationship (with Martin). As goalkeepers, you train a lot together. He played the last however many games and did well.”
