Amanda Staveley has been discussing Newcastle United’s January transfer plans - and admits the need to invest overrides the difficulties of buying in the winter window.

At his unveiling yesterday, new head coach Eddie Howe was not in the mood to discuss what might happen at the turn of 2022, such was his focus on the here and now.

Speaking to NUFC TV, Staveley said: “We have got a robust business plan and we are developing that every week.

“We are preparing for the January transfer window.

“It’s ordinarily not a window we would look to invest in because you don't normally get the right deals but that is something that is important at the moment.”
