Amanda Staveley reacts to Newcastle United's win v Fulham after FA controversy

Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley has reacted to the club's 2-0 win over Fulham in the FA Cup amid scheduling controversy.

Eddie Howe's side were backed by 3,800 travelling Geordies at Craven Cottage as they beat Fulham to advance into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

It was a sold-out away end, despite the 7pm kick-off time. With no trains available after the game, it meant thousands of fans were forced to fork out hundreds of pounds to stay in the capital overnight.

Co-owner Jamie Reuben spoke out "Thank you to all travelling @NUFC supporters for making the difficult journey down".

And now Amanda Staveley has commented on the Toon's supporting, writing on Instagram: "Huge congratulations to our team! Yesterday’s performance was brilliant. Thank you to our amazing fans for showing up for our lads, even with the absence of trains! 🖤🤍 #weareunited"

Earlier on Saturday, before kick-off, the FA tweeted about Newcastle's travelling support before deleting it after receiving backlash. "The definition of dedication. The @NUFC fans will be embarking on a 588-mile round trip. #EmiratesFACup fourth round clash with @FulhamFC," it wrote.

As expected, it fuelled negative a response. Newcastle United Supporters' Club (NUSC) said: "So @itvfootball decide to put it at 7pm on ITV4 with no return public transport. Stop taking our supporters for granted."

Howe's men will be backed by another strong away following when they make the Premier League trip to Aston Villa on Tuesday night (kick-off 8:15pm).
