Amanda Staveley sends Newcastle United reminder after Tottenham Hotspur 'talks'

Staveley, alongside husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, left St James’ Park in the summer after three years when the pair’s shares were acquired by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and RB Sports & Media at a 85%/15% split.

Not only did Staveley broker the £305m PIF takeover, the Ripon-financer took control of the day-to-day running of the football club and oversaw a huge transformation as the Magpies - under Eddie Howe - successfully battled relegation before qualifying for the Champions League.

“Amanda and Mehrdad will forever have our tremendous thanks and well-wishes as they move on to focus on their other business interests,” said Newcastle non-executive chairman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan when announcing the duo’s departure in July. “We have achieved so much together since 2021, including achieving Champions League football in our first full season as stewards of this incredible club.”

In the months since leaving, Staveley - with backers for the Middle East - has been heavily linked with investing in Tottenham Hotspur with talks thought to have taken place. But Staveley has reminded everyone she is a Geordie at heart after showing off her dog Milo’s Newcastle United-themed blanket.

“Milo is loving his @barbour jumper and @nufc blanket keeping him snug this winter,” Staveley wrote on Instagram. It is worth noting Barbour was founded in South Shields, so Staveley has made sure Milo really is on trend!

“Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way,” Staveley told recently told The Athletic. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.

“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.

“I don’t know what my future holds, but you can never move on from the love I have for Newcastle and I would love to come back for matches. I’m a Geordie now. I’m a Yorkshire Geordie, but I will always have that chemistry and that love.”
