Harry Maguire is ready to leave Manchester United after being stripped of the captaincy, according to reports.

The England international has fallen out of favour under Erik Ten Hag having made just eight Premier League starts last season.

He has appeared 175 times and was appointed club captain in January 2020. But ahead of the 2023-24 season, the 30-year-old has been relieved of the armband.

The Sun reports that Maguire is “angry, shocked and upset” at the decision and is considering his future.

“After discussions with the manager today, he has informed me he is changing captain,” Maguire posted on Twitter.

“He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.

“So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband.

“Since the day I took on the role, three-and-a-half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date.

“It’s one of the greatest honours in club football. I’ve done everything I possibly could to help United be successful - on and off the field.

“I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support.”

The same publication claims with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on the 30-year-old, while Chelsea are also considering entering the race.

Man United will likely accept around £30million for Sheffield-born centre-back, who reportedly earns £200,000-a-week.

Although Magpies head coach Eddie Howe is a fan of Maguire, those numbers appear too excessive for a club working under a “strict” budget because of Financial Fair Play.
