Newcastle United had offer ‘in region of £50m’ rejected - which reportedly included £21m winger
Newcastle United fans were left frustrated at the end of the transfer window after failing to strengthen both their centre back and right wing options, which were viewed as a priority heading into the window in June.
Negotiations over a deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi dragged on throughout the final weeks of the window, but after a total of around four failed bids, the Magpies decided to step away from the move on deadline day.

The outlet claimed yesterday that a £35m offer was rejected by The Reds, who would have had limited time to replace one of their prized assets.
However, fresh reports from The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor now claim that Newcastle made a blockbuster offer which was partially cash with Miguel Almiron also moving the other way to the City Ground.
Taylor shared a post on X which reads: “Biggest statement of #NFFC window: holding firm when Newcastle came for Anthony Elanga.

“For Forest, that was a potential club-record sale. Says a lot that owner Evangelos Marinakis strong enough to say no.”
He added: “Also worth noting that one of the reasons why Marinakis/Forest turned it down was they knew it would be a mood-killer.
“Elanga only 22 but really big part of dressing room. Popular with team-mates, popular with fans. He would have been a big loss, in lots of ways.”

Hide AdElanga arrived at Nottingham Forest last summer for £15m just two years after graduating from Manchester United’s academy. The Swedish international was his team’s standout performer last season with five goals and nine assists. He notably made two assists in his sides 3-1 victory at St James’ Park in December and also scored in a 3-2 loss to the Magpies later in the season in February.
