Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schar, Joelinton: Newcastle United injury list & expected return dates.

Newcastle United's injury problems are showing no signs of easing. If anything, the situation is only getting worse with Anthony Gordon and Emil Krafth the latest concerns.

Eddie Howe's side crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night after losing 4-2 on penalties. United were 90 seconds away from advancing into the semi-finals but conceded a 92nd minute equaliser to Mykhailo Mudryk.

Kieran Trippier was at fault for Mudryk's leveller. And he, alongside Matt Ritchie, missed his spot-kick in the shootout as the Magpies suffered their second cup exit in just six days after last week's Champions League defeat at home to AC Milan.

And to make matters worse at Stamford Bridge, Gordon and Krafth hobbled off.

Gordon was on the end of a bad challenge by Moises Caicedo early in the game and eventually withdrew just after half-time. Meanwhile, Krafth didn't re-emerge for the second half due to a gash on his leg.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe explained: “Emil was too sore to continue. He’s got a nasty gash on his shin, which is quite sore at the moment.

“Anthony is the same. I thought it was a really poor tackle on him. It was the type of tackle you don’t want to see, taking one of our attacking players out of the game. He’s very sore at the minute."
