Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hopes Ben White and Bukayo Saka will be fit for tonight’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur - and therefore be available to face Newcastle United on Monday.

The Gunners face bitter rivals Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what is a huge game in the race for the top four.

Arteta’s side currently occupy fourth spot and know a win will open a seven-point advantage. Lose however, and Spurs close the gap to one point ahead of the remaining two fixtures of the campaign.

A big boost for Arsenal would be to have White and Saka at their disposal.

White, a £50million summer signing from Brighton & Hove Albion, has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Saka, the Gunners’ top scorer this season, limped out of the 2-1 win over Leeds United on Sunday.

Providing the latest on the injury front, Arteta said: “With Thomas (Partey) he is still out, Kieran (Tierney) is still out, Ben (White) is a doubt. We’ll have to assess him he’s feeling much better and Bukayo (Saka) is the same.

“It’s very difficult to rate with injuries, it’s just how they feel today, that’s the last day that we can assess them and try to get the feeling, basically.”

Arsenal are the visitors to St James’ Park on Monday night in what is United’s final home match of the 2021/22 season.

After back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Manchester City, Howe will be keen to ensure his side finish the campaign on a high ahead of a busy summer.
