Bruno Guimaraes and his Newcastle United future has - and will continue to be - talk of the town but how fans feel about their Brazilian maestro couldn’t be clearer.

Ahead of kick-off against Sheffield United at St James’ Park, fan group Wor Flags paid tribute to Guimaraes and teammate Joelinton, who recently penned a new long-term contract on Tyneside. The famous Gallowgate End was donned in a Brazil flag, accompanied by a banner that read ““From Alianca and Rio to Newcastle Upon Tyne, a home away from home. Joelinton and Bruno, our Brazilian Geordies ”

Guimaraes has starred for United following his £40million move from Lyon in January 2022 and knowingly has admirers at the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Arsenal. The 26-year-old is under contract on Tyneside until 2028, but his £100million release clause - active between May and June - is a slight cause for concern.

“Having that was well planned and structured by the club, in a sense that there is a finish point,” United boss Eddie Howe told reporters on Friday. “We don’t want the constant speculation, I don’t think that’s healthy for the player or for us.

“When it’s something you don’t necessarily have control over, I don’t tend to worry about. I think it goes without saying what my thoughts on the Bruno situation are.

“We want to keep him, we want to build our team around him and he’s an integral part of what we are doing. His form has been very good. He seems very happy and settled. He will be thinking about a busy summer ahead and where we can hopefully take the team. He is a big part of that. We are not in control of that, so we shall see.”

From fans, manager to owners, the message is clear, they want Guimaraes to stay. The player too has previously stated his love of the club and the city - and gestures like this only strengthen such bond.
