Aston Villa medical planned as deal agreed just hours before Newcastle United clash

Aston Villa are set to secure a new signing just hours before they host Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Middlesbrough star Morgan Rogers - just hours before they host Newcastle United at Villa Park this evening (kick-off 8:15pm).

As widely reported, Villa will pay £15million for Rogers having previously had three offers rejected. The 21-year-old is expected to undergo his medical in the next 24 hours.

Rogers only joined Boro from Manchester City for £1.5m in the summer and has gone to make 33 appearances - scoring seven goals and registering nine assists. Man City hold a significant sell-on clause understood to be 25%.

According to the Daily Mail, Rogers will sign a five-and-a-half-year contract.

Newcastle head to Villa Park this evening on the back of consecutive away wins in the FA Cup against Sunderland and Fulham. However, Eddie Howe's men are without a Premier League away win since September - an 8-0 win at Sheffield United.

Villa meanwhile have picked up 28 points out of a possible 30 at Villa Park this season, just one fewer point than United have picked up across all matches.
