Joe Willock has hinted at his return to the Newcastle United squad along with teammate Matt Targett in a social media post.

The midfielder finally returned to the Newcastle United squad in October after being out for five months. In May, Willock sustained a hamstring injury against Brighton before suffering a setback and an Achilles injury.

And after making his big return in the 23/24 season the 24-year-old found himself sidelined again due to his Achilles. It's believed Willock could make it back into the squad before the end of the month.

Targett underwent hamstring surgery early December after going down injured against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. It was expected to be out-of-action for three months.

It looks like both United players are on track, with Willock posting a fitness update to social media.

Alongside a video of him and Targett on exercise bikes, the former Arsenal man wrote: 'On the way back,' with two fire emojis.

With the Magpies still in the midst of an injury crisis the double boost will be welcome news to fans.

Newcastle will be back in action against Fulham in the FA Cup on 27 January before facing Aston Villa on the 30th.
