Alan Shearer taunted Manchester United after Newcastle United's 1-0 win at St James' Park on Saturday night.

Eddie Howe's side moved up to fifth in the Premier League table after Anthony Gordon's second-half goal.

The Magpies registered 22 shots on goal on the night but the visitors did come close to claiming an undeserved point when Antony's shot deflected off Harry Maguire. However, the effort didn't stand with the England defender in an offside position.

Newcastle's victory was the first time they had beaten Man United three times in a row since 1922. And Shearer, who once turned down a move to Old Trafford in favour of joining his boyhood club in 1996, was quick to provide his match verdict.

And posting on social media, the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer couldn't resist a dig at Erik ten Hag's side.

He said on X: "Only one United wanted and deserved to win that . Toon Toon black and white armyyyyyy. Battered them from start to finish. #NEWMUN".

Howe's men have won their last six games at St James' Park, beating the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea along the way.

Newcastle, who were without 10 first-team players for the visit of the Red Devils, now get a four-day rest before travelling to Everton on Thursday. A trip to Tottenham Hotspur then awaits next Sunday.
