Bayern Munich are no longer chasing Newcastle United talisman Kieran Trippier

Bayern Munich will renew their interest in Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiel, according to reports.

The Bundesliga champions were targeting Newcastle United talisman Kieran Trippier but saw two advances rejected. An initial loan move was swiftly rebuffed before they came back with a permanent offer.

Newcastle maintained their “not for sale” stance by rejecting around £13million for the England international. Eddie Howe was keen to keep Trippier, his on-field captain and key figure in the dressing room.

There were suggestions the 33-year-old was open to joining a side that has a plausible chance of winning the Champions League this season. However, he was unwilling to force through a move midway through the campaign.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel was adamant the 33-year-old was the man to solve their right-back problem. The former Chelsea man had already signed two Englishmen Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who also played alongside Trippier at Tottenham Hotspur.

Bavarian chief Christoph Freund told Sky Germany they are no longer pursuing the Newcastle man. He said: “It’s (Trippier interest) done. We’re just doing what we’re 100% convinced of.”

Bayern will now reportedly reignite their attempts to sign PSG outcast Mukiel. A versatile defender, the 26-year-old can play at right-back or centre-back.

He has started just three Ligue 1 games all season, with Achraf Hakimi the first-choice right-back under Luis Enrique. The German giants are rumoured to prefer a loan move with a view to triggering his £35million release clause at the end of the season.

Mukiel made his name in the Bundesliga during a four-year spell at RB Leipzig. The France international was linked with a move to Manchester United before joining PSG.
