Liverpool will be without Roberto Firmino for this afternoon’s trip to Newcastle United as Jurgen Klopp seeks clarity over his injury.
The Reds striker, who has scored 11 goals in 31 appearances this season, has missed the last three games with an ankle injury.

Klopp confirmed on Friday that the Brazillian will be forced to miss the visit to St James’ Park.

Klopp said: “Bobby is not a serious injury. It’s taking a bit longer than we all thought - and Bobby thought.

“He will not be ready. Bobby didn’t train yet and we need to get further information to get him back.”
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas and Curtis Jones missed the 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday through illness.
Greek left-back Tsimikas has returned to training, although Jones was not present at the Reds’ Kirkby base on Thursday.

Klopp added: “We had a little problem with a little area and stuff.
“Curtis and Kostas. Kostas was back yesterday, Curtis couldn’t train yesterday.”
Only Liverpool had collected more points than Newcastle in 2022, who have their last seven games at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s side will remain in the top 10 with three points, while the Reds are eyeing a return to the top of the table with Manchester City not kicking off until the evening when they travel to Leeds United.
