Borussia Dortmund suffer major injury scare ahead of Newcastle United Champions League visit
Borussia Dortmund have suffered a major injury scare ahead of their Champions League visit to St James’ Park on Wednesday.
Newcastle United play host to the German outfit in round three of fixtures in Group F, regarded by many to be this season’s ‘group of death’.

Hide AdFollowing on from a creditable 0-0 draw with AC Milan in the San Siro on the opening night, a result made even more impressive due to the Magpies’ absence from the Champions League for two decades, Eddie Howe’s men hammered French champions and one of the tournament favourites Paris Saint-Germain 4-1. Scorers on the night were Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar.
Unbeaten domestically - but goalless in the Champions League
And next up is a double-header against the Bundesliga outfit, who are one of only three teams in the German top flight who have enjoyed an unbeaten start to their season. They host Werder Bremen this evening.
While United’s start in Europe’s premier competition has been positive, Dortmund’s, by contrast, has been a touch underwhelming, with a 2-0 loss to PSG followed by a 0-0 home draw with Milan.
And this evening, Dortmund look set to be without one of their most exciting attacking options - a player who has, in the past, been linked with a high-profile switch the Newcastle.

Head coach Edin Terzic has revealed he is going to have to face Werder on Friday without the services of Youssoufa Moukoko, with the forward suffering an injury during the international break.
This opens up doubts as to whether the Germany international will be fit to make the trip to Tyneside early next week.
However, one positive is the return of former Manchester United loan man Marcel Sabitzer to the Dortmund ranks.
Terzic said: “Marcel #Sabitzer will be available again. Unfortunately, Youssoufa Moukoko has sustained a strain in his thigh and will not be able to take part tomorrow.”
