Newcastle United’s injury problems are racking up following the international break.
Ahead of returning to Premier League action against Fulham this weekend, Eddie Howe has been dealt three fresh injury concerns with Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak forced to withdraw, while Chris Wood was injured for New Zealand.

Bruno Guimaraes


The injury
The midfielder returned to Newcastle’s training base on Monday morning after tweaking his thigh on international duty with Brazil.
Guimaraes was an unused substitute against Ghana on Friday and left the camp before Tuesday’s friendly with Tunisia.
What’s been said?
Nothing yet, although frustration will be kicking in at Newcastle with Guimaraes having only just returned from a hamstring issue.

Hide AdThe 24-year-old played 72 minutes against Bournemouth - his first appearance in three matches.
“We had to manage his game time today,” Howe said previously. “We were planning on taking him off after 60 minutes but we left him on a little longer than that.
“We knew we’d be going into dangerous ground if we continued to leave him on the pitch.
“That was pre-meditated, really. He’s done minimal training in the build-up to the game.”

Alexander Isak


The injury
Isak withdrew from the Sweden squad with an unspecified knock.
What’s been said?
Sweden boss Janne Andersson said: “It is of course sad, mainly for Alex, but also for us as a team. But after speaking with both our medical team and Alex, it is the right decision for him to leave. I hope he is back as soon as possible.”
“It feels very sad to have to leave the team,” the 22-year-old added. “I had longed to play in the blue and yellow shirt again. I wish the boys the best of luck on Saturday and Tuesday.”

Hide AdAccording to the Daily Telegraph, Isak is set to be out of action for a “few weeks”, so might not return until Everton on October 19 at the earliest.
Allan Saint-Maximin


The injury
Saint-Maximin has missed the last three games against Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth with a hamstring issue.
What’s been said?
Speaking after the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, Howe said: “He has had a very minor setback with the physio.
“Whether or not he’ll be fit after the international is slightly unclear, but’s certainly not long-term. It’s not clear if he’ll be fit for our next game yet.”

Callum Wilson


The injury
Wilson, after scoring two goals in his opening three games, has missed every game since with a hamstring issue.
What’s been said?
“Callum’s doing very well,” Howe said after the Bournemouth game. “We’re really pleased with his progress.

The injury
Wood picked up a rib injury during New Zealand’s 2-0 defeat to Australia on Sunday. The striker felt “something pop” and was unable to continue despite being heavily strapped.
What’s been said?
“I went in for a challenge and something popped in my rib,” Wood said. “It hurt to run and breathe, so I had to come off.”

Elliot Anderson


The injury
After three impressive cameo appearances against Wolves, Liverpool and Crystal Palace, the 19-year-old was a noticeably absence versus Bournemouth.
What’s been said?
“Very minor niggle,” Howe said after the Cherries draw. “He’ll be fit and fine for the next game.”
Potential return date
And with that, we can expect to see Anderson return to the squad against Fulham.
Jonjo Shelvey


The injury

Hide AdShelvey underwent hamstring surgery in August after picking up the injury in the 3-2 Eusebio Cup to Benfica in pre-season.
What’s been said?
“We hope so, yeah,” Howe said when asked if Shelvey will return before the World Cup break. “Jonjo’s making good progress.
“He’s out on the grass, he’s running. He’s looking good. He’s in really good physical condition, he’s looking after himself, so we anticipate that hopefully he won’t be too long.”
Potential return date
Still too soon to say, although it seems Shelvey is set to return ahead of schedule after an initial diagnosis of 12 weeks.
Karl Darlow


The injury

Hide AdMagpies No.2 Darlow injured his ankle in training last month, which saw Howe move for former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius on a free transfer.
What’s been said?
Howe said: “Karl won’t be out long-term, we anticpate he’ll be back around six to eight weeks, we’re hoping it’s more six than eight, in which case he’ll be available for a lot of games.”
Potential return date
The 31-year-old will push for a return before the World Cup break, If not, Darlow should be back for the visit to Leicester City on Boxing Day.
Emil Krafth


The injury
The Sweden international is a long-term absence after sustaining an ACL injury in the Carabao Cup win at Tranmere Rovers in August.
What’s been said?
