Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes always wanted to be written into the club’s history - and now, having been the first captain to lift major domestic silverware since 1955, he’s done just that.
Guimaraes was emotive, passionate and caring as he launched into an amazing post-final speech at Wembley to show just how much he cares about the club and the people who surround it. As if that’s ever been in doubt? From the way he plays it’s obvious he cares, wearing his heart on his sleeve week-in, week-out in black and white. And for that reason, as well as his obvious qualities, he’s loved by Newcastle fans.

Hide AdIt isn’t just Wembley and March 16, though. Since that date, Bruno has led his players away from any potential post-final lull and into near perfect drive for Champions League qualification - a competition where he and many other of the Magpies’ top stars really belong. A narrow win over Brentford blew off the cobwebs, followed by ever more convincing wins over Leicester City, then Manchester United and finally Crystal Palace - 5-0 - in midweek.
And taking some time away from the game with his family seems like the perfect reward for Guimaraes, who was only reunited with wife Ana Lidia Martins and two sons, Matteo and Pietro last week, after they remained in Brazil for an extended period after the player’s international duty.

Bruno Guimaraes spotted
The Magpies’ skipper posted some shots of himself and the family out enjoying the seasonal change, with sun sweeping across Tyneside this week. Guimaraes added a number of images to his Instagram story walking around Tynemouth Park and Tynemouth Boating Lake, a popular spot with young families. It’s not yet clear if he went for a spot of mini golf at Lost World Adventure Park, or a spot to eat at The Greenhouse, but if he didn’t, he was definitely missing a trick.
Guimaraes posted a lovely eight word message in English and Portuguese to his followers on Instagram, as he posed with his son Pietro. It read: “Enjoying the good weather.” Then followed with: “Amor da minha vida.” Which when translated means ‘love of my life.”

It was definitely some much-needed R&R for Bruno, with that very much being the calm before the storm. Newcastle travel to Aston Villa on Saturday night looking to further underline their Champions League credentials with victory.
It won’t be easy, of course, with Villa coming off the back of an impressive 3-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, 24 hours before Newcastle’s Premier League demolition of Crystal Palace.
A win for Newcastle would see them go just one point behind second-placed Arsenal, who themselves were 2-1 winners at Real Madrid.
