Bruno Guimaraes has addressed the ongoing contract saga between Newcastle United and Joelinton as talks progress to make the 27-year-old one of the top earners at the club.

Joelinton's contract expires at the end of next season and is in a race to play again this season after undergoing thigh surgery. And many have been vocal in their fear that the footballer had played his last game for the club- including Eddie Howe.

However, talks seem to be progressing after CEO Darren Eales and co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi took over from Dan Ashworth, with the Telegraph reporting there is ‘growing optimism’ over a new deal for the Brazilian. And now Bruno Guimaraes has expressed 'hope' over the ordeal whilst hilariously livestreaming on Twitch last night.

When asked about Joelinton, who served as best man at his wedding, Guimaraes, quite passionately, said: "I hope, I hope Joe will sign, I hope so!"

The midfielder's talk of the Toon didn't end there, either. The 26-year-old lovingly pronounced that both his sons are Geordies before breaking into a rather sweary United fan chant.

The affection Guimaraes showed for the club during his stream has been doing to the rounds on social media, with supporters loving every second.

"He is absolutely brilliant man. Infectious personality," said one fan. While another said: "Protect him at all costs."

Howe is desperate for Joelinton to extend his stay on Tyneside having first arrived from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim for a then club-record £40million in 2019.

“That’s always been in my mind as an absolute priority to try and get him to stay at the club long-term," said Howe. "I see that as hugely important."

“We’ve missed Joe’s qualities, especially physical - his robustness, his ability in duels, set plays for and against… I think we’re very lucky to have a midfielder as big and competitive as he is," added Howe.

"Whenever you lose those qualities I think you notice when they’re not there. He’s a very unusual midfielder really, you don’t get many like him and we’ve missed what he can bring."
