Bruno Guimaraes left the pitch in tears as the Newcastle United midfielder was forced off at half-time against Fulham.

The Brazilian appeared to roll his ankle in the opening stages at St James’ Park and looked in huge discomfort as he received treatment.

He attempted to continue and got a second round of physio treatment, where his ankle was heavily strapped.

But as half-time approached, Guimaraes knew his afternoon was over.

The 25-year-old was in tears as referee Robert Jones signalled the half-time whistle and had to be comforted by Joelinton and Sean Longstaff.

He was replaced by Allan Saint-Maximin with the scoreline goalless.

Magpies head coach Eddie Howe will provide a further update on Guimaraes after the game.
